The Haryana Agriculture department inaugurated the Soil Health Cards for Farmers of the state. This Soil Health Card will provide essential information to farmers about their crops. By spreading the knowledge of fertilizers and pesticides that are ideal and health for the crops, this scheme will also help improve the general health. Under this scheme the government will educate the farmer of their crop land, they will tell the farmers what their options are in growing on their land.

Soil health card for Haryana farmers

This Soil Health card will be allotted to the registered farmers. This scheme will be active in many districts of the state. The Soil Health Card will be active in the following districts:

  2. Bilaspur
  3. Ladwa
  4. Indri
  5. Kaithal
  6. Jind
  7. Ganaur
  8. Lakhan majra
  9. Bahadurgarh
  10. Adampur
  11. Hathin
  12. Taru
  13. Khol
  14. Kanina
  15. Bhavanikhera
  16. Panchkula
  17. Panipat
  18. Gurgaon
  19. Balmagad

According to a recent interview by Paramvir Singh, agriculture minister, “the state has 15.28 lakh farmer families that are going to be issued the soil health card.” The department has already dispatched 13.65 lakh cards. The remaining 1.63 lakh cards are expected to be released by the next two months. The “Soil Health Card” is being issued after the thorough examination of the nutrient content of the soil in all the districts. The quality of the sub-soil water has also been tested before issuing the cards.

The scientists in the agriculture department collected soil from the different regions along with sub-soil water. They then checked the quantitative and qualitative content of the soil. They tested the mineral content and formulated data. The scientists have based their research and formed data regarding each soil property and the amount and quality prescription of manure and fertilizers that are needed to have good yield from it. This information can be collected by farmers in Haryana through the Soil Health Card. This way farmer can utilize the correct amount and quality of manure to grow the most suitable crop on their lands.

The government has already issued 13.65 lakh soil health cards to the farmer families of the various districts in Haryana. The remaining cards will be reaching the farmer’s doorsteps by October 2016. The cards are been issued to a total of 19 blocks in the state. In addition to the cards the department has undertaken an initiative to treat saline and alkaline land in the state. This includes about 49,000 hectares and 1.85 lakh hectares respectively.
