As we all know the panchayat elections are not fought on party symbols. However the contestants who file the nomination for the election can have their election symbols. There is a list that contains the allowed election symbols, candidates must select the symbol from that list. As the voting is done for filling posts of Sarpanch and Panchayat member, each voter needs to cast two votes i.e. one for each designation.
It was expected that this time in Gujarat panchayat elections, EVM i.e. electronic voting machines will be introduced. However, sadly, that is not the case. There are not enough EVM’s available in the state, so the voting will take place on ballot boxes. A total of 61,000 ballot boxes will be used. The option of “NOTA” will be introduced in the election which means that if the voter thinks there is no candidate that deserve the post, he can use this option.
All the interested applicants, who want to contest for any of the posts, need to file nomination. For this purpose, applicant needs to download the nomination form. This form has to be filled correctly, stating the post for which you are applying, pasting photo etc. After the form is fuly filed, it must be submitted at the concerned office before the last date which in this case is 10th of December 2016.
These nomination forms are then reviewed and the the list is released. The names of the candidates which appear in this list, become eligible to fight for the position of Sarpanch or Panchayat Member (Panch)
